Gremlin Fugue (2001)
This image began as a frottage, a coaxing of a presence from random smears of color on canvas.
His face came first, then his hands, wrapped in streams and currents and forks of flowing earth-shaping.
To me he looks like a musician enrapt, an earth elemental transmitting forces interlayered like music– jazzed, playing a fugue, entering a fugue state.
