My experiments with photos as art originated as model photography, with the intent to create references for paintings. A typical session would produce many interesting poses whether or not they had been intended ahead of time, leading me to consider certain shots as a scaffold for a artwork in themselves. I also started experimenting with putting paint and makeup on my subjects, and, since this was back when I was using a film camera, with double exposures to introduce an element of unpredictable “found art” to the results.
