The genesis of these images began when Brenda asked me to paint her for a special solo dance ritual that marked a powerful healing transition in her life.
We were so pressed for time on the day of the event, that instead of carefully patting on the base alabaster and lavender makeup, I wound up virtually “finger-painting” it on, assisted by her friend Shama, before tracing the filigree lines in violet gold. This turned out to accentuate the otherworldly quality of her makeup in the photographs taken afterwards.
The original shots were on film, but the following year, I acquired Photoshop for the first time and was able to add more special layering effects to enhance the fae mood.
