Headdress (2019)
This painting was created to partner with this elaborate retablo frame, which I found in a antique market in Sedona, AZ, where I lived for 5 months in 2008. The frame is so elaborate, and so small, that I felt only a strong simple composition would work. The frame reminded me of stylized headdresses of ancient Babylon, especially the curling pillars on the side, hence the name of the piece. (This work was displayed at the MN State Fair in 2019.)
